Overcoming Lack of Canadian Experience in Your Job Search

June 20, 2016

Many newcomers may feel that a lack of Canadian work experience is a tough barrier to overcome with some employers. Maha Al Amin, a graduate of ACCES Employment’s Human Resources Connections program and now a successful HR professional addresses this concern with advice and guidance for newcomers.

There are companies out there who will value what you bring as an internationally-trained professional. Look for employers who will embrace diversity of thought and experience. Canadian employers really want someone who will fit in with their team and be able to contribute quickly to the organization. Show what you can contribute and that you are aware of Canadian workplace expectations and culture.

“Asking for Canadian experience is really asking, ‘what are you going to bring to me to help us continue our journey as a company’. Focus on your transferable skills.”

Hear from Maha on addressing the issue of Canadian experience. Watch now.
